TERMS OF ELIGIBILITY
Chess League of Toronto, Canada.
The Royal Chess Club of Canada (RCCC) is dedicated to fostering elite-level competitive chess. Membership is exclusively extended to highly-rated players who meet the strict criteria outlined below.
I. Minimum Rating Requirement
To be eligible for membership, a player must possess an official, published FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) rating.
- Standard Requirement: The applicant's official FIDE Standard Rating must be 1800 or higher at the time of application.
- Verification: All ratings will be verified against the most recent official FIDE Rating List.
- Provisional Ratings: Provisional FIDE ratings will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis but do not automatically satisfy the 1800+ requirement.
II. Titled Players are Welcome
The RCCC extends a special welcome to all titled players, who are automatically considered to have met the minimum standard for entry.
- Automatic Eligibility: Players holding any of the following FIDE titles are eligible for membership regardless of their current rating, provided their title is active:
- Grandmaster (GM)
- International Master (IM)
- FIDE Master (FM)
- Candidate Master (CM)
- Woman Grandmaster (WGM)
- Woman International Master (WIM)
- Woman FIDE Master (WFM)
- Woman Candidate Master (WCM)
- Verification: A copy of the player's FIDE ID card or an official FIDE profile link showing the active title must be provided with the application.
III. Maintenance of Eligibility
Membership status is subject to ongoing review to ensure the high standard of play within the club is maintained.
- Rating Floor: Members are strongly encouraged to maintain a FIDE Standard Rating of 1800 or higher. A temporary drop below this threshold will be reviewed by the RCCC Executive Committee, which reserves the right to suspend membership privileges if the rating remains significantly below the floor for an extended period (e.g., 12 consecutive months).
- Code of Conduct: All members must adhere to the RCCC's Code of Conduct and the FIDE Laws of Chess. Any conduct deemed contrary to the spirit of fair play or the professional standards of the Club may result in immediate revocation of membership, regardless of rating or title.
IV. Application and Review Process
- Submission: All potential members must submit a formal application detailing their chess credentials, including their FIDE ID and current rating.
- Final Authority: The RCCC Executive Committee holds the sole and final authority on all membership decisions. The Committee reserves the right to accept or deny any application without explanation.
